Witness above the “21-Piece SAE/Metric Go-Thru Socket Set,” offered for less than half the price of GearWrench’s original. But as Harbor Freight proves again, if someone can make it, they can make a knock off cheaper. And they’re pretty reasonably-priced, too, with sets starting around $50. One regular socket set and one deep socket.Way back in 2006 we posted our first hands-on with GearWrench’s XL Pass-Thru ratchets. I think it is nice having the option of being able to have two sets in one. There is an extension for the 3/8" and 1/4" if you need to reach into deeper areas. It includes a spinner handle that is hollow most of the way up. The larger handle can be used with 3/8" and 1/4" sockets, the smaller can only be used with 1/4" sockets.

It does have an adapter (I don't know if other sets by other manufactures have this) so you can use the ratchets with regular sockets. I think that is better because the sockets might hold up longer since you don't have to make it handle different style bolts. It has both SAE (now called inch) and Metric but I don't think these claim to work with rounded or hex style bolts. When you put a socket on the ratchet, the overall height is smaller than a regular ratchet so you can get into tighter areas. They claim you don't have to turn it far before you get to the next ratchet click so that is nice for tight areas. I like the many features of this compared to a regular ratchet set.

I still like to buy Craftsman for when something breaks, just like any company's product will do in time, I can easily return it to a store instead of mailing / finding a tool truck.
